Josh Saylor is in his fifth year
as the Head Coach of Brownsburg Swim Club and the girls and boys
teams atBrownsburgHigh
School
. In the past four and one half years, Brownsburg
Swim Club has grown from 80 to 150 swimmers, has achieved Level 1
status in the USA Swimming Club Recognition program and has
produced State, Zone, Sectional and Junior National qualifiers. In
the same time frame, Josh's swimmers have broken 13 Brownsburg High
School records and 14 athletes have been named Academic
All-Americans. Prior to coming to Brownsburg, Josh was the Head
Coach of the Vincennes YMCA from September 2003 through March 2006.
Josh coached athletes to individual
AgeGroupState
championships as well as Zone, Sectional and
Junior National qualifying times. One of Josh’s swimmers was
also a national age group champion in The Philippines and
represented his country in international competition. Josh was the
Head Coach at Vincennes University during the 2005-06 short course
season, where he guided the Trailblazer men’s and
women’s teams to fourth place finishes at the NJCAA National
Championships, an effort which resulted in 11 Trailblazer athletes
being recognized as Community College All-Americans. Josh’s
coaching experience also includes serving as an age group assistant
coach (1997-2000) for the Lake Forest Swim Club
in

,
Ill.
Josh is an ASCA Level 3 coach, has served as an
Indiana Swimming head camp coach and camp director and an Illinois
Zone Team coach. Josh was a four-year member (1994-1997) of the
University of Notre Dame’s men’s swimming team and a
1997 graduate with a degree in communication. Josh attended John
Adams High School in South Bend, Ind., where he was a three-time
MVP and four-time sectional champion.
Erik
Bruvold has proven
himself to be one of Indiana’s top age-group coaches and is
joining the Brownsburg Bulldog coaching staff after spending the
last four years with the Fishers Area Swimming Tigers (FAST) in
both Age Group and Senior Coaching roles. He is most widely known
for inspiring his swimmers with a positive attitude to overcome
difficult challenges and reach new goals.
Before joining FAST Erik
also helped coach very successful teams for both Washington
Township Swim Club and Butler University here in Indiana.
Erik is a Cincinnati native who grew up swimming
for a St. Xavier High School AquaBombers class that won four State
titles and one National Championship title. He was also a
scholar-athlete and varsity letterman for the University of
Cincinnati, where he received both his Bachelor of Fine Arts and
Masters of Business Administration
degrees.
Erik started his coaching career on the sunny West Coast with the
Santa Barbara Swim Club in 1999, later joining the Cincinnati
Marlins and St. Xavier High School coaching staffs. During this
time period the Cincinnati Marlins won the Ohio Junior Olympic Age
Group Championships each season and St. Xavier High School claimed
five more State titles as well as another National Championship
title. In addition to these team rankings, Erik has also developed
numerous Top 16 swimmers, many becoming top college prospects and
Olympic Trial Qualifiers.
Vanessa
Frobese returns for her second year with Brownsburg Swim
Club after a very successful first year, which saw her swimmers
compete at the ISI Divisional and Age Group State Championship
meets.
Vanessa will again lead
the Bronze Group and assist with other groups in the program. Her
work with BBSC follows previous coaching assignments with the
LaPorte HOT Turbos and the LaPorte middle school swimming programs
in LaPorte, Indiana. She was a standout swimmer for
the Turbos, an IHSAA State qualifier for the LaPorte Slicers
and also swam collegiately at IUPUI.
Vanessa is in her senior
year at IUPUI and is pursuing a major in Elementary Education with
an endorsement in Early Childhood Education. She will will
graduate in May 2011.
Kelly
Schlottman returns for her second year as a member of the
Brownsburg Swim Club coaching staff, after leading the Bronze
Development Group to tremendous improvements.
Kelly will again work
primarily with the Bronze Development Group and also assist
with other groups in the program. Kelly was a standout swimmer for
the Mount Vernon Swim Club and Mount Vernon High School teams in
Mount Vernon, Ind., with more than 10 years of competitive
experience. She continued her swimming career on scholarship
at IUPUI.
In addition to her
competitive experience, Kelly has taught swim lessons through the
Brownsburg Parks & Recreation Department and has worked with
swimmers of all ages and abilities.In May 2010, Kelly
graduated from IUPUI with a degree in Health Information
Administration and a minor in Business.
Debi
Stout, a Brownsburg resident with a knack for
instructing and working with children in her professional role as a
science teacher, is a welcomed additon to the BBSC Coaching Staff.
She will work primarily with the Silver Group, where she will bring
a wealth of competitive and coaching
experience.
Debi was the 1991 IHSAA
state champion in the 100 Butterfly, representing Crawfordsville
High School. She took her talents from Crawfordsville and
Sugar Creek Swim Club to Indiana University, where she was a
letterman and standout swimmer. Her career achievements also earned
her a spot in the Crawfordsville High School Athletic Hall of
Fame.
She has worked with
athletes of all ages and abilities, including
previous coaching roles with North Montgomery
High School, Sugar Creek Swim Club and Yorktown Swim
Club. During her time as the head coach of the Yorktown High
School program, Debi was also voted "Sectional Coach of the
Year".
Chris
Gordon is a bright addition to the BBSC Coaching
Staff. He will work largely to help the Silver Group
reach their full potential.
Chris is currently a
student at Butler University, working towards his degree in
pharmaceutical science. He has also served as an assistant coach
for the Butler University swim team. Additionally,
he has also been recognized as a high school
All-American, with competitive accomplishments as a state
finalist and YMCA National qualifier in Galesburg, Ill., where he
represented Galesburg High School.
Mike
Hanlon follows the same path to Brownsburg as Head Coach
Josh Saylor, having attended John Adams High School in South Bend,
Indiana. He has been an integral part of the Brownsburg
community for many years, raising his family with his wife Penny
while aslo serving the business community as owner of his own
computer technology company and also working in the medical
information industry.
Mike was an exceptional
student athlete at John Adams. He graduated with a double
major in computer science and math from Lake Forest College in Lake
Forest, Ill., where he was a four-time letterman and outstanding
performer for the Foresters in the
breaststroke.
Having already coached
baseball, basketball and soccer in the Brownsburg youth
sports leagues, Mike brings his abilities to the BBSC
Coaching Staff, where he will work primarily with the Bronze
Development Group. Mike has previously coached swimming in several
places including the McKinley Terrace Sharks in South Bend, where
one of his swimmers was then 7-year-old Head Coach Josh
Saylor.
Carlton Racette comes to the
BBSC Coaching Staff with a wealth of coaching and competitive
experience. He will work primarily as a special assistant with the
Gold Group, and will also share his knowledge througout the
program.
Carlton is a Butler University graduate and
is currently a full-time pharmacist at Walgreens in Indianapolis.
His coaching experience includes serving as an assistant to the
Butler program from 2005-2007, where he was a standout swimmer and
still the school record holder in the 200 I.M. and 200 Butterfly. A
Florida native, Carlton developed his skills as a member of City of
Lakeland Aquatics and George Jenkins High
School.
